National Healthy Schools Week is an annual event in October to prioritize, plan, and engage your school community in Healthy School conversations at the start of the school year. This week is meant to be tailored to your unique school community, giving you the opportunity to identify opportunities most relevant in your context.
Engage students, staff, and community members in conversation, experiential learning, and action planning to support the well-being of your school community throughout the entire year.
Toolkits for National Healthy Schools Week 2024 are now available! Although the event has passed, they remain at your disposal.
Tell the story of how your school promotes health and wellness.
New this year: SAMPLE ACTIVITIES
As the second annual National Healthy Schools Week (NHSW) kicks off, the Canadian Healthy Schools Alliance has sample activities for educators and schools to utilize as they explore one or many different health topics related to health and well-being. Schools and educators are encouraged to choose health topic(s) and activities that best suit your school’s needs during NHSW. These may include, but are not limited to:
Physical Activity
Mental Health
Injury Prevention
Food Literacy
Substance Use
Growth and Development
This year’s NHSW sample activities cover each of the six health topics and are split into grade grouping: K-3, 4-6, and 7-12. Adapt and/or adjust the activities as needed, depending on the age, stage, and needs of students.
Please note: this is not an exhaustive list of activities nor health topics. If your school has identified a different health topic to focus on, please explore that! Stay safe, have fun, and review PHE Canada’s STEP Framework for creating a more inclusive experience for learners while exploring the health topics and engaging in activities.
